And maybe not just a bit…
My brother and sister-in-law are livid. I would be, too, if I were in their shoes… My ten year old nephew, a 4th grader at a very well respected Catholic school, was sent home with a permission slip yesterday to attend a Pro-Life rally. Ummm…. He’s TEN. (Only ten by two weeks, might I add…) And what if his parents aren’t pro-lifers??? (I’m not saying if they are or aren’t… That’s not the point here…) And, again, he’s TEN.
I don’t care how much you believe in a cause or how passionately you fight for it, you still must use some common sense and good judgement when pushing your agenda. 4th grade boys don’t have a clue what a period is, much less an abortion… And, I’m willing to bet most 4th grade girls don’t have a clue what an abortion is, either. Some of them may not be that certain of how a baby is even made… You’re going to suggest teaching them about the birds and the bees at a freaking anti-abortion rally??? Have you lost your ever lovin’ mind? Yes. Apparently so.
So, my sweet brother drafted a two page letter that is being sent along with the permission slip back to the school today, saying not just no, but HELL NO… I’m sure it’s a doozy, too. And good for him! I’m appalled for them. How dare the school try to include ten year olds in such a thing! I don’t care if it is the Church’s belief… A ten year old, or anyone of the elementary school age in my opinion, has no place at such a rally… And am absolutely stunned and sickened that they would even suggest such a thing.
I’ve personally never been to a Pro-Life or Pro-Choice rally, so I’m not sure what goes on… But I feel sure either is full of over-the-top agenda pushing whacko extremists throwing blood, handing out pictures of fetuses and talking about murder. I wouldn’t want to go to one, much less send my child. Especially a child that still thinks babies magically appear in your tummy.
Let’s see what comes of it… Hopefully, enough parents will pull together and raise enough hell that this type of thing won’t be suggested again as a possible field trip option… Let’s stick to the planetarium, shall we?
