The Princess requested a castle cake, so a castle cake she shall have…
She wanted a bike… She wanted pink, but mom got her purple and she didn’t seem to mind. She also got a pink helmet, knee pads, elbow pads (or shoulder pads, as she calls them,) and lovely pink fingerless gloves that she has worn around the house all this morning… They’re rockin’.
The ginormous playground thingy, minus a few finishing touches (like the railroad ties to hold the cedar chips in, which were delivered via giant dump truck, oh, two hours before the party…)
Driving the boat… One of her favorite things to do…
The party was great. It lasted until after 10pm, and started at 4:30… But, it was fun. (We somehow wound up with three boys spending the night, a six year old and two nine year olds, though… Which was not quite ideal after a looooong day/night, but I left mom in charge of that situation…) Anyway, the party really went well, only three minor swing accidents, nobody got too drunk, nobody got mad at anyone (not that I’m aware of anyway,) which is saying a lot for this family, I got to see my brother (he hung all the streamers and helped put out all the balloons… Thanks, Trey!,) there was some major cleavage involved, and a few funny jokes told about said cleavage, but that’s about the extent of it. The kids all played and ran and destroyed the house and yard, and had a fantastic time dong it. We grilled hamburgers and hotdogs with all the fixings and had some dips and chips and stuff… And plenty of beer. Except for me… I was too busy to drink it.
Next year, I am doing a kids’ party. Strictly a KIDS’ party. Meaning, middle of the afternoon, limited adults (parents and grandparents only,) no food (except snacks) and NO BEER. I love to have parties, but damn it’s hard having a big bash with kids running everywhere… It either needs to be a kids’ party or a grown up party. Drunken adults not watching their own children and me having to run around making sure that no kids were beating each other up, getting taken out by swings or pissing anywhere, while hosting a party and trying to attend to the needs of the adult guests was rather hectic and not my idea of the perfect hostess situation. I think we need to limit these types of parties to holidays… And preferably at someone else’s house.
But, everyone had fun, especially the Princess, and that’s all that matters.
